HLA-DR MFI of total DC was determined in adult controls (n = 36), asymptomatic sub-microscopic P. falciparum (Pf) infection (n = 4), asymptomatic sub-microscopic P. vivax (Pv) infection (n = 7), asymptomatic patent P. falciparum infection (n = 16), asymptomatic patent P. vivax infection (n = 19), uncomplicated (UM) P. falciparum-infected adults (n = 6), and uncomplicated P. vivax-infected adults (n = 8). Graphs show median with interquartile range. Kruskal–Wallis test with Dunn’s multiple comparisons test was used to compare between groups (*significantly different to control). Data were obtained by analysis of fresh whole blood using 4-colour flow cytometry panels
