Annual parasite index has declined across all countries in the GMS. Annual parasite index is the number of confirmed new cases from malaria registered in a specific year, expressed per 1000 individuals under surveillance, for a given country, territory, or geographic area. Activities directed at malaria elimination are feasible where the API is below 1.0 [28].
